Chairwoman of Kansas Women for Accountable
and Responsible Government
|
Good afternoon. Thank
you for being here today.
Kansas Women for Accountable and Responsible Government
was created to give a voice to the concerns of professional
women, the multitasking wives, mothers, and single women
who demand fiscal responsibility and personal safety standards
from our state government.
We sent out a survey to Kansas Candidates. The candidates
we’re endorsing cross party lines and gender lines, but
they have one thing in common: they’re forward thinking,
fiscally responsible, and place a priority on personal safety.
The surveys have come in, and today, I’m pleased to announce
our endorsements.
In the race for Kansas Governor, our endorsement goes to
Tim Shallenburger. Mr. Shallenburger has refreshing ideas
that he brings to the budget discussion: he wants to reduce
waste and unnecessary spending rather than increasing the
burden on tax-payers.
A former legislator, Kathleen Sebelius voted repeatedly
for tax increases. And to our shock, Ms. Sebelius voted
against sexual predator registration. Our members place
a high priority on personal safety. And there is simply
no excuse for that vote.
In the race for State Treasurer, our endorsement goes to
Sally Finney. While her opponent Lynn Jenkins appears to
be a suitable candidate, we’re excited about the fiscal
responsibility and forward-thinking ideas that Ms. Finney
will bring to the table as Treasurer.
In the race for Attorney General, our endorsement goes to
Phill Kline. Both candidates have extensive experience in
the areas that our members care about, but based on his
survey response and public information about his record,
our group looks forward to having Mr. Kline’s commitment
to safety and leadership skills in the office of Attorney
General.
Our state government owes Kansas citizens a “Better safe
than sorry” attitude toward protecting us from re-offending
criminals. Our state government owes Kansans fiscal responsibility
rather than reckless spending followed by reckless tax increases.
State government owes tax-payers accuracy in spending reports.
Our intentions were never to take a side in every race,
but rather to lend our endorsement to candidates who we
trust to carry our values to the State Capitol.
We’re looking closely at the voting records of the candidates
involved in legislative races across the state. We’ll be
posting complete endorsements on our website shortly. That
address is www.KWARG.com
